New Recipe - Watermelon Agua Fresca

Last week, I discovered that a developing watermelon was detached from the vine after my lawn was cut.

Before throwing it away, I cut it open to see how far it had progressed.

It did not progress far enough to develop its pink flesh, which meant it would not be sweet or delicious.

In the past, I discarded the melon. This time, I searched online to see what I could do with it outside of throwing it away or composting it.

During that search, I saw that watermelon melons do not continue to ripen after being detached from the vine. I already knew that and found articles that mentioned that fact didn't offer much hope on how the watermelon could be used.

Then, I came across many recipes for making an aqua fresca. Because I like to add my own flare to recipes, I gained enough information to know that as long as sweetener was used, the fresca would be tasty when using an unripe watermelon.

If you don't already know this, eating a watermelon that isn't pink is safe. Most people don't because it is bland.

If you have limitations on your sugar intake, this recipe isn't for you unless you like your drinks bland.

The best part is that you can use this recipe for ripe and unripe watermelons.

If a watermelon gets detached, don't worry.

Stay calm, and make fresca!

Check out the recipe below. It is also located on our drinks recipe page.
