On November 20th, I shared my poem, "Busy Busy Bee" had been published in Words and Other Wild Things. Thursday, December 1st was the official debut of the book. Authors published in the book were invited to the SullivanMunce Cultural Center in Zionsville, Indiana to read their poems.
Brick Street Poetry, Inc., who sponsored the creation of the book, meets monthly at the SullivanMunce Cultural Center and their December's focus is children's poetry. It was nice to have children, including my own, in the audience to hear the poetry readings. In addition to the book being given to children in Indianapolis hospitals, the poems will be brought to life through Poetry Alive an organization that performs poetry for children.
I enjoyed meeting other authors who were published in the book. It was also great to hear the inspiration for their poems.
Below is my poem included in this children's poetry anthology.
Busy Busy Bee
Zucchini, strawberry, and melon
fan open their flowers
with the rising sun
in you zoom visiting each one
Busy busy bee
feed feed feed
provide nourishment
for your colony
Back to your home
you return
some nectar for nourishment
the rest stored in the comb
Busy busy bee
feed feed feed
make honey
that’s delicious and sweet
In the morning
you reappear in our garden
nectar drinking, pollen spreading
helping food to grow
Busy busy bee
feed feed feed
pollinate food
for my family
You might not know
how important you are
but you are one of nature’s
beautiful stars
Busy busy bee
feed feed feed
provide nourishment
make honey
pollinate food
fly free
I think this book would be a wonderful gift for a child. My children enjoyed listening to the poets. They said my poem was their favorite....but they're probably a bit biased.
