During 2023, we grew: oregano, thyme, mint, French tarragon, lemon balm, sage, basil, green onion, onion chives, hot banana peppers, big macaroni peppers, gypsy peppers, lunch box bell peppers, German chamomile, cucumber, winter squash, tomatoes, and cantaloupe.
I hope I did not forget anything!
Garden 2023
The gardening journey continues!
Successes
-
The big macaroni peppers (that we started calling Big Macs) were delicious and plentiful. They were the perfect size for stuffing.
-
All herbs grew well; we had too much.
-
Gardeners Jerry and James planted plants, watered plants, and harvested independently of Gardener Shicole!
Struggles
-
A winter squash sprouted on the inside and we weren't able to eat it after cutting it open.
-
Tarragon grew so much, and the shade from the plant stunted the growth of plants around it.
-
Defending my dissertation and working through final edits impacted my gardening goals. At least I finally finished officially on July 28, 2023!
New Updates
-
We grew two new kinds of peppers: macaroni peppers and gypsy peppers
-
We installed more beds. We still don't have enough garden beds yet. Hopefully, in 2024, we can finally finish this task. (In reality, we always find a place for more garden beds)
From Our Boys
-
Jerry - The spicy banana peppers were really good even though we couldn't eat them all and had to give some away. The other peppers were good as well. We had a lot, so we were able to make many recipes with them.
-
James - I liked growing and eating the cantaloupe, but unfortunately, some of them were eaten by animals and bugs.
