During 2021, we grew: oregano, thyme, mint, French tarragon, lavender, sage, basil, green onion, kale, beets, Swiss chard, spinach, okra, bell peppers, banana peppers, radishes, peas, cantaloupe, cucumbers, cherry tomato, and regular-sized tomato.
I hope I did not forget anything!
Garden 2021
We have been urban gardeners for over a decade!
Successes
-
Despite the ongoing pandemic, we were able to expand the garden.
-
We were able to give food to our close relatives safely during the pandemic.
-
Gardeners Jerry and James planted plants, watered plants, and harvested independently of Gardener Shicole!
Struggles
-
The sage plant died.
-
Only a few kale plants grew well. The other plants either died or were stunted in growth.
-
Starting an education consulting business took me away from my garden more than I wanted.
New Experiences
-
We grew three different kinds of bell peppers.
-
Gardeners Jerry and James were able to help plant okra for the first time.
From Our Boys
-
Jerry - I learned how to grow okra and sorrell.
-
James - My favorite part was watching the food grow and eating it afterwards.
